Storytelling and
Traditional Folk Music
There are two kinds of stories: personal narratives, stories that come from the teller’s own life-experiences and traditional narratives, stories that have been told and told and told again. Many of these traditional stories are handed down though the ages. Myths, Fables, Fairy Tales, Ghost stories, and the like. I like to tell stories originating from the United States, as well as stories from around the world. Many of these folktales are still being told today. My personal stories are about my many experiences as a high school English teacher and about my many years as a DNR park ranger at the State Parks in West Michigan.
My vision as a storyteller is a simple one: To use storytelling to help people develop empathetic listening, which ultimately leads to a deeper understanding and appreciation of the human experience. I endeavor to accomplish that vision by choosing stories that are meaningful on many different levels. I try to find stories with themes of love, forgiveness, kindness, insight, serendipity, and wisdom.
